Translation: Pauline Wick
EURODRAM is a European network for drama in translation aiming to promote exchange between translators, writers and the European theatre scene.
In 2020/2021, the GERMAN LANGUAGE COMMITTEE will be accepting plays that have been translated into German.
The original script language can either be a European language, a language from the Mediterranean or a language from Central Asia.1)
We are looking for contemporary translations, meaning the translation cannot be more than 3 years old. Please note that we will not accept translations that have already been submitted in previous years. The deadline for 2020/2021 is the 31st of December 2020.
Who is eligible? Writers, translators and publishers are entitled to make submissions. Writers and publishers may submit one text only, while translators are allowed to submit one text per writer.
In submitting a translation, authors, translators and – if applicable – publishers agree that the translation may be passed on within the committee to help decide on this year’s selection. They also have to agree that the translation may be used free of charge for readings in connection with EURODRAM events. All this information as well as other necessary details are included in the document you can access via the link Documents.
The GERMAN LANGUAGE COMITTEE selects three texts from the submissions and publishes its selection on the 21st March 2021.
Through readings and discussions, EURODRAM intends to present the plays to the public – ideally with the writers and translators present. In the past, those events have been realised in cooperation with a variety of theatres in Germany and Austria, such as the Theaterhaus G7 in Mannheim, Theatre Drachengasse Vienna, Schauspiel Leipzig and the National Theatre Mannheim.
We will propose the translators who win the selection to work on translations of plays that won previous selections of the EURODRAM committee that covers their respective language. Additionally, we try to arrange funding/scholarships for those translation projects.
Please send your text with the required documents to Wolfgang Barth, member of the coordination team of the German Language Committee, at vieuxloup@t-online.de.
The deadline for submissions is the 31st December 2020.
EURODRAM is a non-profit European association registered in Luxembourg (Luxembourg Business Registers No. F11931). Link to the statutes.
Plays that were originally written in German and have been translated into one of the other languages represented within the network may be submitted to the committee coordinator of the respective target language. Deadline is the 31st December 2020. Please note that the procedures of the individual committees may differ.
